The Hunter Score is our named, proprietary acquisition-intelligence scoring formula. It turns live market listings into a single 0–100 signal and a clear action (BUY / CONSIDER / PASS), so you can shortlist faster without confusing “a car I like” with “a car priced well.”

Three questions The Hunter Score never blurs
One opaque number hides the real decision. A car can be excellent value and unaffordable; it can fit your budget and still be the wrong equipment. The Hunter Score keeps three orthogonal questions visible:
Affordability
Does the asking price clear your budget gate? Being cheap cannot buy its way into a recommendation on price alone.
Personal fit
How well the car matches what you want — condition, usage, segment, and desirable equipment — separate from “is it a deal.”
Market position
Where the ask sits versus genuinely comparable listings after normalizing for equipment — the objective half of the score.
How to read The Hunter Score
On inventory cards and vehicle pages you’ll see The Hunter Score as a 0–100 figure with a recommendation badge:
- Higher is better for shortlisting — a screening signal, not a promise the car will sell for that “value.”
- 80–100 is our top band: on Taycan Hunter, signed-in members automatically save these cars to My Hunt (favorites) so the best-suited inventory stays with you.
- Inventory is sorted by The Hunter Score by default (highest first), so the first cars you see are the strongest overall reads.
- Always check the confidence flag and market context beside the number before you act.
How The Hunter Score appears on Taycan Hunter
- Inventory cards — lead metric band with score, label, and rec badge.

Taycan Hunter is one application of The Hunter Score. The formula brand is separate from the site brand and can power other niche markets under license from The Taycan Hunter.
Market position (inside The Hunter Score)
“Below market” only means something if the comparison set is honest. At a high level, The Hunter Score:
- Builds a peer cohort of like-for-like listings (segment, condition class, usage band, and other pack-defined keys).
- Adjusts for equipment so a loaded car isn’t compared raw against a base car at the same ask.
- Uses robust statistics (center and spread that shrug off fire-sale or fantasy outliers) to locate the subject’s ask in that cohort.
- Ranks that position into a 0–100 market read when the cohort is strong enough to trust.
Discounts and fair-value style figures are measured against asking prices on the board — not sold prices, not an appraisal.
Personal fit (inside The Hunter Score)
A separate 0–100 read from the car itself: condition, usage, trim/segment, and desirable equipment. It answers “is this the kind of car you want?” — not “is it underpriced.” When you’re signed in and have shaped your hunt (desires, needs, budget), this half is tuned to your profile so two hunters can see different Hunter Scores on the same car. Guests and members without a hunt profile still see the site-wide baseline. Exact calibration is pack-specific and proprietary.
The Hunter Score verdict
When market confidence is solid, The Hunter Score combines fit and market position into a headline score and a recommendation. Market position is weighted to favor genuinely well-priced cars, not merely desirable ones. If the market half can’t be confirmed, the car cannot become a BUY on fit alone.

Confidence
Every Hunter Score carries a confidence flag so you know how hard to lean on the number:
Enough like-for-like comps — market position can be taken seriously.
Thin or mixed cohort. Use the score as a hint, not a decision alone.
Far enough below peers that something may be wrong — history, wear, battery, title. Investigate before pursuing.
What The Hunter Score is not
- Not an appraisal or expected sale price.
- Not a substitute for PPI, battery SOH, title, or CPO verification.
- Not open weights or a public formula you can reimplement from this page.
